Episode 1
Around 7 months back, Raktim worked hard over 6 months to deliver an important project. Raktim’s efforts have been marvelous as you meticulously studied and grabbed information to your best to deliver the project to the max of your ability.
The scripts, transition, references, email conversations and every single element that was involved in this critical project was documented by Raktim. You can say this has been a life-changing and wholesome project for Raktim that he did for this organization.
Now comes the twist in his story. After 4 months around, one day he decided to clear the clutter from his system. He was preparing for his next big project and he needs to start afresh.
However, this new project is a development over his previous project that he did. So, he needs all the freshness in his mind to get started. So, leaving the folder of this project, he was clearing out the redundant files.
Something extremely distressing event happens. He was a little distracted and he pressed permanent delete on this folder as he did on other unimportant folders. He went in shock for a moment before wrapping his head around what he had done.
Because of data issues, there was no backup taken in the cloud or hard drive. This project was the deciding factor for Raktim’s long-term placement in Florida, that he worked towards for the last 4 years.
Episode 2
The first thing Raktim could think of was how to tackle this situation. With such a critical project he has put on, he undoubtedly needs all the documents of the previous project.
More so, his entire hard work of 6 months. Everything is just gone in a blink. The stress, anxiety and tension grappled Raktim quite tightly. He rushed to his manager who he confided in.
Raktim blurted out everything that happened and started sobbing, much to the bewilderment of his manager. Ashish, the manager, comforted Raktim and showed his true leadership skills.
He asked Raktim to calm down, take some time off and start all over again – the best that Raktim can actually do.
They had no control over what had been lost. The most optimal thing that can be done now is to hit the restart button because there is no question of rewind.
Ashish encouraged Raktim to give his best this time and even better than last – something a true leader will do in such a case. It’s all sorted out and fine.
Hold on, that’s not the end of the story; here starts the next episode.
Episode 3
After a week, Raktim walks to his cubicle to start again. A little while after he rebooted the system, he felt cloudy-headed. He can’t seem to recollect much of past experience.
After a struggle, he could recollect a few steps, but he could certainly feel glitches with his brain functioning. He is taking way longer than usual to recollect information.
Considering it’s a hiatus of a week, he ignored it and decided to start the next day.
Much to the bafflement, Raktim felt foggy in his head and couldn’t understand what’s going wrong.
What happened to Raktim?
Let me introduce you to the concept of brain fog – something that not all are aware of. Raktim is suffering from this where a victim takes longer to recollect and learn. It leads to frustration and irritation because of the restraint to call to mind anything you need.
Brain fog is characterized by a lack of mental clarity and concentration. A sufferer tends to forget almost everything and feel perplexed most of the time.
Raktim was hit by overworking in his previous project and spending too much time on the project. Added to that, he wore excess stress over what happened a week back.
He has been insomniac at work. On top of it, after having weathered a terrible loss at work last week, he hasn’t been sleeping at all. Tremendous sleep deficiency is an important cause of this peril.
At a cellular level, brain fog occurs by hormonal changes as well as enhanced levels of inflammation in hormones. When the triggers happen to the hormones responsible for your focus, mood and energy, brain fog can occur.
Adding to the above, brain fog can also occur due to:
- Nutritional deficiency
With a crunch in Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D, the brain might develop. While Vitamin B12 is responsible for maintaining energy levels because of maintenance of the central nervous system and formation of red blood cells, deficiency of the latter can be a cause of weakened cognitive function.
- Food intolerance
If you are sensitive towards any food, like gluten, it can lead to cognitive impairment. This may be the reason for brain fog.
- Depression, Stress and Anxiety
These three are highly related to loss of energy and motivation and are the predominant reasons for brain fog.
- Viral infections
SARS, Covid and other critical viral infections can also be the cause of brain fog among certain individuals.
- Medication
Certain medications or unprescribed drugs can contribute to brain fog as side effects.
- Thyroid and abnormal menstruation
Among the health disorders, these two are often the contributing factors to the threat of brain fog.
How to clear brain fog
Don’t be threatened thinking that it can’t be cured. It certainly can be relieved. We know by now you are wondering about the best ways to clear it out.
- Enough sleep
No treatment can be a substitute for this. This is a time when your brain rests and your body clears out toxins. Adequate sleep can help you cure brain fog.
- Deter from toxins
Stay away from triggering substances like hard drinks, tobacco, hookah and other items of smoke.
- Daily dose of exercise
Work for 30 -60 mins in a day – a physical activity of any form. This will improve your brain health.
- Follow a good diet
The Mediterranean diet can be helpful as it includes olive oil, nuts, legumes and beans, whole grains, pulses, fruits and vegetables.
- Meditation and Mindfulness
If you can make it a practice to mindful meditate, be sure to be relieved of stress, anxiety, intrusive thoughts and overthinking.
- Spend time with self
Instead of running after FOMO, engage in deep thoughts. Connect with yourself and try focusing your attention.
- Stay socially connected
This doesn’t mean splurging your time in unwanted activities and meaningless connections. Instead, stay connected to those who are positive, vibrant and meaningful.
- Take breaks
It’s important to take small breaks in a day and a good hiatus in a month or two. Amidst work, take small strolls, close your eyes, tune into some healing or motivational music.
